The School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri invites applications for an open rank interdisciplinary faculty position (assistant, associate or full professor) in Native American and Indigenous studies, with potential research areas in digital storytelling, film or new media production, and/or visual studies critical theory and history. The committee especially welcomes applications from candidates specializing in community-based scholarship and/or creative practice.

Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) is a growing interdisciplinary area at the University of Missouri, with faculty in the College of Arts and Science—including Digital Storytelling, English, Film Studies, Geography, History, and Religious Studies—as well as units such as the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the School of Medicine. The College of Arts and Science established an undergraduate NAIS minor in 2016 and sponsors significant campus programming.

The School of Visual Studies, in the College of Arts and Science, houses graduate and undergraduate degree programs in Art, Art History, Digital Storytelling and Film Studies. Its focus on exploring the full complexity of visual and material cultures through interdisciplinary studies in criticism, history, and practice is matched by its commitment to local, national, and global outreach. The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment and includes teaching four courses each academic year.
