Ivan MacDonald

Ivan MacDonald is Blackfeet filmmaker that is enrolled in the Blackfeet tribe of Northern Montana. For the past two years he has been documenting the missing and murdered indigenous women and girl’s crisis. Which has led to his first feature length documentary, When They Were Here, which is focused on the MMIWG crisis in the state of Montana. Ivan has shown her work nationally including at the ACLU National Conference in Washington DC. Ivan has a research background working with indigenous populations in the prison system, media, mental health and the legal system. Ivan is attached to the Perma Red tv series based on the book from Salish author Debra Magpie Earling. Decolonization in media is a focus of his work and he has built a theoretical framework through his research that helps guide him through that process.
